Miracles still happen, or so it's said. What is the place of the sacred in the contemporary world? Looking back at the myth of Saint Anthony of Lisbon (and also of Padua) through Goya's timeless painting, "13 alfileres" (13 Pins) is a story of love, revenge, and blood. It begins with a recreation of an episode supposedly occurring in medieval Lisbon, filtered through cosmopolitan 18th-century Madrid, and ends again in present-day Lisbon, where, in reality, miracles no longer occur.
